the Cusat50 is slightly less capacitive at 50pf per metre, and there is a bit more copper to it (it's not OFC though). The centre conductor is a solid annealed copper wire 1mm in diameter, and the shield is both braid and copper foil. The overall jacket is PVC which we encase in polyester braided sleeving. The dielectric primary insulator (between core and shield) is a Polyethylene cellular construction.
By manipulating the cable to loosen the insulation's contact with the wire (the whirling process mentioned by Sol), the performance improves. The cellular primary insulator has more give than a foamed dielectric to allow this to happen.
We also lay up the cables in the direction of the mill and mark them with directional arrows. This is something we don't understand the science of, but we found in blind tests, the direction made a difference.
As mentioned, the Cusat50 is not OFC, but having tried a number of OFC cable types, I have always returned to the Cusat50 which seems less harsh to my ears.
